  • Garden Whimsy // Quilting Ideas

    Sometimes Crafter June 22, 2020

So you’ve been diligently sewing your rows every 2 weeks for the Garden Whimsy Quilt-along and now you’re thinking to yourself: How should I quilt it? That’s where I come in, I’m going to give you a few ideas that are a bit more intricate (perhaps if you’re taking it to a longarm quilter), as well as a few less intimidating ideas you could accomplish on your domestic machine. If you’re not sure what i’m even talking about, the Garden Whimsy Quilt-along is being hosted by Amy Friend in celebration of her book release this spring with Lucky Spool, called…

  • Kite Flight Quilt + Quilting Video

    Sometimes Crafter February 26, 2017

I just recently quilted this beautiful Kite Flight quilt by Heather Wall (@heathersnacks).  If i’m remembering correctly, Heather is a new-ish quilter, and she did a really wonderful job on this.  The seams weren’t too bulky, everything laid flat and lined up well and was relatively square, which I noticed would be rather hard to achieve with all the bias seams that end up in this block.  She was going back and forth between two patterns and ultimately let me decide on the best one for the quilt.  I think Rainbow Clams ended up being perfect for the top.  Not…

  • Custom Half Square Triangles

    Sometimes Crafter November 19, 2016

I’m a little behind on sharing quilts – but when am I not behind when it comes to blogging.  I didn’t want to let anymore time pass without sharing Meredith Hobb’s gorgeous quilt.  She designed this and asked me to do some custom quilting on it, which I was more than excited to do.

  • Cactus Garden Quilt Pattern

    Sometimes Crafter July 12, 2016

I just released my latest quilt pattern last night: Cactus Garden.  All those little crown points reminded me of succulents and cactus spikes, and bringing them all together seemed like a garden of cacti.  I actually had this about 3/4 of the way done and then set it aside and forgot about it.  So here it is, two years later and I finally finished it up.  I still love the colors and design as much as when I started it.

  • AGF Stitched // Blithe Quilt

    Sometimes Crafter March 7, 2016

Another year of AGF Stitched has started up!  If you aren’t familiar with AGF Stitched, it’s a collaboration between Art Gallery Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop.  Each quarter a group of select bloggers makes a set pattern with Art Gallery Fabrics of our choosing, and Fat Quarter Shop puts together a video tutorial for making the quilt.  Our first quilt for this year is the Blithe Quilt, which is available as a free download at Fat Quarter Shop.

  • AGF Stitched // Locket Quilt

    Sometimes Crafter January 7, 2016

I’m a week late posting my AGF Stitched quilt for the last quarter of 2015.  December threw me for a loop, not least of which was because I had a horrible flu that just wouldn’t go away.  Despite all of that, I was able to finish the 4th quilt in the AGF Stitched series.  It’s the Locket Quilt pattern (a free download) designed to feature Amy Sinibaldi’s new fabric line for Art Gallery Fabrics (which I just love).  For my version of the Locket Quilt I used fabrics from April Rhodes Bound fabric line.  As i’ve said with the past…

    Quilting A Traveling Quilt

    Sometimes Crafter August 21, 2015

Today i’m sharing another quilt quilted with the Gingersnap pattern.  It’s such a nice, versatile pattern on quilts.  This is Heather O’Brian’s Instagram Traveling Quilt, made with contributions from several other gals in their group (she blogged about the top here).   It was amazing to see in person, so bright and cheerful!  My favorite kind of quilts to work on.  Just walking into my studio and seeing something so colorful on my frame puts a big smile on my face.  Heather helps me with all of my patterns, testing and proofing them, and I was so excited to quilt…

    Quilting Cheerios

    Sometimes Crafter August 20, 2015

A few months before I quilted Angela’s fox quilt, I quilted her Cheerio quilt.  I loved all of her fabric choices, and while this was the first time i’d seen this quilt pattern, I thought the fabrics worked perfectly with it.  It’s a Thimble Blossom pattern, and when I think of Angela’s style, I can’t help but think of Camille Roskelley, too.  I gave Angela a few designs to choose from, that I thought would work well for the quilting of this quilt, and I was very happy when she picked my first choice.  This quilting design is called Gingersnap and it…

  • Quilting Foxes

    Sometimes Crafter August 17, 2015

I quilted this adorable fox quilt back in April for Angela.  It is baby size, and was such a fast quilt, that I didn’t even get anything on Instagram of this one.  Angela asked for woodgrain quilting, so I sketched out an idea and then free-motion quilted it on.  She wanted woodgrain, but not too dense, so the quilt was still soft and snuggly.  I think the quilting achieved just that.  It was really hard to capture the quilting on the quilt itself, it blended in so well with the background fabric, that I sent along this sketch with Angela…
