Happy Houses Embroidery

September 13, 2012

Brice (who turned 4 at the start of summer) started preschool last week.  It’s not going as smoothly as I had hoped, but it is definitely an adjustment for him being away from me.  I think he is enjoying himself, but he’s not use to playing with so many kids at once, and Brice isn’t your typical crazy kid, he’s pretty calm and relaxed, at least compared to a lot of the kids I see.  Being my only child, he gets a lot of adult time and is more use to being around people that listen when you talk and don’t push and shove.  He’ll adjust over the next few weeks.  He’s been learning how to write the letter “A” this week and the number one.  We have them written on his chalk board and he practices when he feels like it.  He’s doing so well.  I’m so proud of him.  He really likes for me to draw little houses for him on his board.  He calls them “happy houses”.  I agree, they do look pretty happy.  I drew this scene today, and thought they’d make a really cute embroidery pattern.

While I don’t have time to stitch it up right now, I went ahead and made it a template for you to try.  Do be sure to share if you make one.  I’d love to see it all stitched up.  {Link Below}

    Thank you for sharing the stitchery pattern and I hope your little man adjusts well. All that change can be daunting for little ones. Sometimes the world of kindy and preschool become almost foreign country status as in culture shock, lol. Blessings to you.

    I printed it. I’ve never done embroidery, but I might give it a try. Good luck with preschool. I have three kids and they are all different with regards to that.

I decided to make his ornament this year, and while I set out to make a toilet paper roll ornament, he saw white clay and assumed goose, so I made him Lucy goose. He's quite happy, and so am I. He loves our Lucy goose.

I used oven-bake polymer clay (Michael's brand was what I had on hand), acrylic paint (just the craft variety...again, what I already had on hand), and a glossy glaze (Sculpey, which I don't recommend, its gotten very thin since I last used it, it took way too many coats to be the right thickness). The ornament is about 1.5"h x 1.5"w x 0.5"deep. It was really easy to make, so don't say you can't do it. You can.

I made an ornament for Brice (which I'll share later when it's finished), and then painted these cute little canvases while my paint was out yesterday. This is another quilt quilted for @jenny.l.barrett I felt Sashy was the right amount of modern and traditional for this quilt top. I was having a hard time picking a design for this but kept coming back to this. It's a go-to design for me and I always love it on everything. I think it ended up being pretty perfect for this. #sometimescrafterlongarmquilting
