Gallifreyan Quilting

July 2, 2014

I’m a huge Doctor Who fan.  I’ve been watching it since I was a little girl and it aired on PBS.  I don’t remember much of the original Doctor Who, but i’ve watched all of the newer ones since they began airing.  I’m actually a season behind right now.  I hate to watch knowing it will end.  I also have a hard time watching, knowing that I will need to do nothing but watch.  There is no working on other stuff while I watch that show.  It just sucks me in!

Needless to say, I was thrilled when Caroline emailed me to see if I would be interested in quilting her Doctor Who quilt from the quilt-along she was co-hosting.  She asked if I would be able to quilt it to look like Gallifreyan script (the writing of the Gallifreyan’s – i.e. Doctor Who’s people), or something similar.  Of course, there was nothing out there like it, so I had to go ahead and create it for the Statler.  I had a lot of fun designing and setting it up and it was great to see it quilted on the quilt.  I am quite please with how it turned out.  Caroline did a beautiful job on the quilt top and I think her idea for the quilting was brilliant and i’m so glad I could bring it to life.

My mom requested I make this Swedish Braided bread with apple pie filling for her birthday this year, instead of a cake. It smells delicious and I can't wait to dig in! #birthdaytreat #swedishbraidedbread

I decided to make his ornament this year, and while I set out to make a toilet paper roll ornament, he saw white clay and assumed goose, so I made him Lucy goose. He's quite happy, and so am I. He loves our Lucy goose.

I used oven-bake polymer clay (Michael's brand was what I had on hand), acrylic paint (just the craft variety...again, what I already had on hand), and a glossy glaze (Sculpey, which I don't recommend, its gotten very thin since I last used it, it took way too many coats to be the right thickness). The ornament is about 1.5"h x 1.5"w x 0.5"deep. It was really easy to make, so don't say you can't do it. You can.

I made an ornament for Brice (which I'll share later when it's finished), and then painted these cute little canvases while my paint was out yesterday. You can see individual photos of each of them over on my other account @christinalanecreates (grouped with the photo like this).

This is another quilt quilted for @jenny.l.barrett I felt Sashy was the right amount of modern and traditional for this quilt top. I was having a hard time picking a design for this but kept coming back to this. It's a go-to design for me and I always love it on everything. I think it ended up being pretty perfect for this. #sometimescrafterlongarmquilting
