A very, very late snow for us. It's a new record f A very, very late snow for us. It's a new record for the Portland area. We're just north of Portland about 20 mins in Washington and we have quite a bit of snow. It was 7 inches this morning (8" at final count), and it hasn't slowed yet. It's those glorious big, fat flakes. The ducks and geese came our of the barn, but the chickens wouldn't come out of their house. Usually it's the opposite. The ducks are not a fan of the snow. The greenhouse is fairing well and keeping the starts at a cozy 65-degrees. When you step outside it's a symphony of breaking trees in the woods. We had a big one come down in the field behind us. The snow is just very heavy on the trees and I'm sure them starting to leaf out doesn't help. Since we didn't really get snow this year it's fun having this one day. It's funny to think we were 77 last week and snow this week. Today was the first day back after spring break, but the west side schools cancelled. I'm sure the kids aren't sad. I told B we could have a snowday, too. It's suppose to switch to rain soon, and snow days that snow, and then melt, are kind of the best kind of snow days. #pnw #snowday #ridgefieldwa #sometimescrafterfarm #ducks #geese #chinesegoose #runnerducks #pekinducks #ducksinsnow
One of those times holding on to stupid shit for 2 One of those times holding on to stupid shit for 20 years paid off. I have been eyeing a Crop-a-dile for awhile now and they were 30% off at Joann's yesterday so I decided that price was too good to pass up. I went and unearthed some 20 year old eyelets from a craft bin to give it a go (since there were no eyelets to be found at Joann). These are at least 20 years old. I tried to let them go several times, but somehow they always survived the random craft bin purges I do every so often. #wermemorykeepers #cropadile

Today I finished up with adorable Spectacular Sava Today I finished up with adorable Spectacular Savanna quilt for my client Deb. I was a few weeks behind schedule, but am happy to have finished before Christmas. Luckily it wasn't a Christmas deadline so I didn't feel rushed and could make sure everything was just so. You may have seen my video I shared back in the spring coming up with the design (if not, scroll back a bit in my feed to watch that), and I pretty much followed the idea to the exact original design, the only change I made was to the top and bottom border. I didn't think the fill would show well there and decided it needed it's own design. I think it gives the quilt even more definition and fits in with the theme perfectly.
.
I ended up using Curly Weave in the background because it made me think of Savanna grass waving in the wind while the animals all hid within. That probably took the most time as I like to avoid over-stitching/build-up where possible, so I had to go in and fit every design to each space around the animals and minimize stitching in the outline around them.
.
Another consideration with this quilt was keeping it as loose as I could, so I tried to keep the lines to 1" and 1/2" spacing where possible, because this is for a baby, and I wanted it to still be cuddly. Too dense and it's stiff as a board. But I think the background fill is still nice and soft, and not too dense at all. Most of the quilting in the animals was around 1/2" to 3/8", but I really tried to stay away from 1/4" when i could, only using that dense in small spaces where less stitching would look funny.
.
Let me know if you have any questions in regard to how I do something with custom quilting and I'll do my best to explain how I go about it. I design everything on the computer on the program for my Statler. This could all be done easily with rulers, but I like the weight off my shoulders I get using the computer to stitch exactly as I want, where I want. I'm a perfectionist and using the computer is a huge stress reducer for me.

Popping in to say I finally got my new Procreate b Popping in to say I finally got my new Procreate brush set listed! I've been working on it in the evenings when I'm not quilting for well over a month now, but am totally happy with how it came together! There are a ton of stamp brushes in the collection to help you create your own A-Frame cabins and woodland scenes. It's currently listed on Creative Market, but will be on Etsy and my website soon (links in my bio). I didn't want to delay any longer because it's just the perfect brush set for this time of year. I posted a video showing how it's used, and a look at what's included, on my art account @christinalanecreates #scsbrushes #procreatebrushes #cabinillustration
