This fun asterisk quilt was on my frame today. Gra This fun asterisk quilt was on my frame today. Grayce picked Spring Sparkle, one of my new pantos, for it. I think it ended up being a perfect design for this quilt. She wanted a weightier batting so we went with @quiltersdream Cotton Supreme. It's a great quilting texture and should be a nicely weighted quilt. Her backing is an adorable popsicle flannel, so everything about this quilt says cuddle-on-the-couch to me. #sometimescrafterlongarmquilting #longarmquilter #longarmquilterforhire #longarmquiltersofinstagram #longarmquilting #sometimescrafterpantos

Day 4: A peek inside my sewing space! I pretty muc Day 4: A peek inside my sewing space! I pretty much grew up with my mom always having a dedicated sewing space, so I have always had it in my head that one needed a sewing room, but I have also had my sewing space be the dining room table a few times. Any space works, but it is nice having a dedicated studio, especially since it's my business. I am exceptionally fortunate to have this space, I don't for one minute take it for granted.

My husband and I did all the work ourselves, with help from friends and family along the way. It took about 10 months from leveling the site, to moving everything in. My least favorite part was drywall. I hate drywalling and kept begging my husband to hire someone, but we're frugal, and why pay someone when you can do it perfectly well yourself. This was when my husband had started to develop what we would later find out was congestive heart failure, so it was a slow build after he got home from work and on weekends. I'm impatient and wanted it done right away so it was hard to wait. We built all of the cabinets from scratch so it was exactly how I wanted, and the countertops are birch plywood. My biggest regret is finishing with an oil based sealer instead of water-based, which would have left them the pretty birch color instead of yellowed wood. The studio is 16x24 (I think) and we didn't have any specific plans we used, just an idea and some measurements, and my husband's construction know-how.

While it's not the machine I use the most, (that w While it's not the machine I use the most, (that would be my longarm) this is my sewing machine. I bought my Bernina new when i was about 20, so its roughly 25 years old now. It was just about the most basic model Bernina offered back then, costing me $800, and it has been an amazing machine. I thought about upgrading several years back, but ultimately decided not to. Machines are so computerized today, and that's just more things to go wrong, and makes it less likely I can fix it myself, so I decided to stick with what I have. I would buy it over and over again. I've never had any trouble with it and it has always been exactly what I needed for quilting, garment sewing and everything in-between. You don't need a fancy machine to sew, just reliable and well-built.

Not my first quilt made, because I don't think I h Not my first quilt made, because I don't think I have photos of my first dozen or so quilts, but the oldest one in my Google Photos archive (2010). This has been our bed quilt for years, but I've somewhat retired it because of the wear after washing it so much the last couple years with the dogs. I used used the method of tossing squares in a paper bag and then just grabbing and sewing without worrying where everything went. A great method for a quick quilt. When ever I happen across photos of this quilt I think to myself: I need to make another one. Orange, yellow and pink are still my go-to fabric colors.
