Another year of AGF Stitched has started up! If you aren’t familiar with AGF Stitched, it’s a collaboration between Art Gallery Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop. Each quarter a group of select bloggers makes a set pattern with Art Gallery Fabrics of our choosing, and Fat Quarter Shop puts together a video tutorial for making the quilt. Our first quilt for this year is the Blithe Quilt, which is available as a free download at Fat Quarter Shop.

Binding Perfectly Mitered Corners
I had a couple of people on Instagram ask me about my mitered corners on my quilts, and how I got them to turn out so “perfect”. Perfect is of course in the eye of the beholder, but I do tend to have nicely squared corners on my binding. It comes from years of practice and perfecting my technique. It’s not difficult, or any big secret, so let’s break it down in photos and then you too can love your mitered corners. First off I want to mention how I hold my quilts when i’m working on binding. This is…

Binding // Joining Ends
I was reviewing my binding posts (1, 2, and 3) before my binding class at Modern Domestic last month, as I wanted to direct students there for a refresher after class should they forget a step. I realized that while it’s still relevant, I don’t actually show the method i’m using now to attach the ends of my binding. It’s still the same basic idea, but I now use the Fons & Porter Binding Tool (affiliate link) to help me do it a little more efficiently. After I initially wrote those posts someone mentioned it to me and so I picked one…

AGF Stitched // Locket Quilt
I’m a week late posting my AGF Stitched quilt for the last quarter of 2015. December threw me for a loop, not least of which was because I had a horrible flu that just wouldn’t go away. Despite all of that, I was able to finish the 4th quilt in the AGF Stitched series. It’s the Locket Quilt pattern (a free download) designed to feature Amy Sinibaldi’s new fabric line for Art Gallery Fabrics (which I just love). For my version of the Locket Quilt I used fabrics from April Rhodes Bound fabric line. As i’ve said with the past…

Quilted Christmas Tree Skirt
** Modern Christmas Tree Skirt Workshop on December 5th at Modern Domestic!** This has to be one of the most requested patterns i’ve ever had. Since I first made this tree skirt for a Flickr swap years ago I have gotten many emails requesting a pattern for it. I always had intentions of put it together, but just never got to it. I finally decided it needed to be done. I really wanted to do something outside of the box as far as fabric choices went and I immediately thought of Succulence for this tree skirt. Even though the colors…

AGF Stitched // Welded Quilt
I am so excited to share this quilt with you, I only wish I had the time to quilt it before this post! I have been out of town for a few weeks, so I had to hurry to get this pieced the last two days, so quilting will be happening this weekend I hope. The pattern for this round of AGF Stitched with Kimberly is the Welded Quilt by Art Gallery Fabrics. It’s a very simple quilt to piece, but due to the nature of the piecing you get a really great square turned on point. As with all…

Modern Feathers Class
Next month i’ll be teaching a Modern Free-Motion Feathers class at Modern Domestic on their new Bernina Q24 longarm! If you have a midarm or longarm machine, or like to rent time on the longarm at the shop, and have wanted to learn the basics of quilting feathers, this is the class for you! We will start at the very beginning, learning how to form a basic feather spine and petal and from there branch out to learn just what we can do with it. You can add fun things like decorative spines, swirls between feathers and branch out…

Painted Basket Quilt Pattern
The Painted Basket Quilt pattern is now available. You can read more about the quilt in this post and you can find the pattern for purchase here. If you’re someone that likes working with Jelly Rolls, this is a strip friendly pattern. The pattern lists both yardage and strip amounts needed for the different fabrics, making it easy to swap in leftover strips from other projects. While quilt instructions/fabric requirements are for making the quilt as shown, you could easily make a scrappy version of this quilt, as the sizes needed for each block are listed at the beginning of the…

Quilting A Traveling Quilt
Today i’m sharing another quilt quilted with the Gingersnap pattern. It’s such a nice, versatile pattern on quilts. This is Heather O’Brian’s Instagram Traveling Quilt, made with contributions from several other gals in their group (she blogged about the top here). It was amazing to see in person, so bright and cheerful! My favorite kind of quilts to work on. Just walking into my studio and seeing something so colorful on my frame puts a big smile on my face. Heather helps me with all of my patterns, testing and proofing them, and I was so excited to quilt…
